FBI Director Chris Wray stated that the control of the social media platform Tiktok is in the hands of the Chinese government, and this is a national security threat to the United States.
China-based social media platform TikTok, which has recently come to the fore with privacy issues, continues to increase the number of users day by day.
The company is now under more scrutiny as the platform is getting more and more popular.
The USA has taken action again for TikTok, the social media platform that has been very common recently, especially among young people.
A few months ago, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requested that the app be removed from Android and iOS due to data security concerns regarding China. Now, the FBI has said that the platform threatens national security.
TikTok statement from the FBI
According to the news of AA, Chris Wray, Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), stated that the control of the social media platform Tiktok is in the hands of the Chinese government, adding that this raises national security concerns for the USA.
Pointing out that China can use the data it collects on TikTok for spying, Wray said, “All the data is in the hands of a government that does not share common values with us. This government does not serve the interests of the United States. This should cause concern.” said.
The FBI has said many times before that data collected on TikTok can be used “maliciously” by the Chinese government.
On the other hand, TikTok Chief of Operations Vanessa Pappas stated in a session in the US Senate in September that the Chinese government has no access to the application’s data.
