On board, his Virgin Galactic rocket plane, billionaire Sir Richard Branson has successfully reached the edge of space.

In the plane that Virgin Galactic has been developing for 17 years, the UK entrepreneur climbed

high above New Mexico in the United States.

He described the journey as an “experience of a lifetime”

Just over an hour after leaving the ground, he returned safely to Earth.

“I have dreamt of this moment since I was a kid, but honestly nothing can prepare you for the view of Earth from space,”

he mentioned after the flight in a press conference. “The whole thing was just magical.”

Sir Richard’s rocket plane, Unity, achieved an altitude of 85 kilometers (282,000ft; 53 miles).

Dave Mackay and Michael Masucci, the vehicle’s two pilots, and Beth Moses, Colin Bennett,

and Sirisha Bandla, three Galactic employees, accompanied the businessman on the voyage.
