Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said that they want to create a crypto wallet and a decentralized exchange.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said that they want to create a crypto wallet and a decentralized exchange. The famous messaging app wants to take a more active role in the cryptocurrency industry.

The app recently managed to sell $50 million worth of usernames in less than a month via the blockchain-based auction platform Fragment.

The fragment was a project that Durov abandoned in 2020 due to regulatory pressure. The project was built on top of the Telegram Open Network. Powered by the good sales on the fragment, Durov intends to further Telegram’s crypto ambitions. The CEO said the company will create a decentralized exchange (DEX) and crypto wallets that can reach millions of users.

Telegram currently stands out as a messaging app heavily used by crypto traders. Durov has previously stated that he enjoys watching blockchain development work. Durov also emphasized the collapse of FTX and said the following about DEX work: “Cryptocurrency users should switch to self-custody wallets that do not trust any third party”
