One billion light-years away from Earth, two galaxies were visible in a Hubble Space Telescope photo. The two galaxies had a shape resembling a snail and appeared to be linked.

These two overlapping galaxies were seen in the picture by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The alignment of the two galaxies is probably purely accidental; they are not actually interacting, despite looking to collide in this picture.

The American Aeronautics and Space Agency’s Hubble space telescope, which is seen in the photograph, has been conducting observations of space for 20 years.
